RENOWN v. NEW BRIGHTON SURF CLUB. At th© Municipal Baths last evening, ft team train H.iU.b, Renown' played a water polo match against a team from tho Now Brighton Surf Club, tho looai men winning by two goals to on© alter a vory exciting contest, Tho teams were as follows: Renown—Goal, Corporal H'Erven; backs, Lieutenant Denham, Band-Sergeant Bilker and A. B. Stevenson; forwards, P. O, Edwards, Corporal Press and Stoker Spiois. New Brighton—Goal, B. S. Knox; backs, C. Bryant, D. F. Coulter and F. L. Collins: forwards, R, Coulter, N, Batchelor and A. E. Summorfiold. Tho gsmo v.-ae lively throughout and good individual work was a conspicuous feature. Tho sailors, who had .not previously played together, put up a really food performance undor the circumstances. Both goals were frequently under hot fire. Tho first score went to New Brighton, R. Coulter, putting one in from near tho goal. Three shots at tho Bailors’ goal in quick succession were woll stopped. The local goal was then bombarded and eventually Corporal Press scored for the sailors with a- very fine shot, fum a mix-up tho Renown backs failed to clear tho hall and Summerfield scored tho winning goal for the homo team. Mg C. Atkinson was the referee. Prior to tho match tho members of the teams swam a relav race, which, resulted in a win, by a very few inches, for tho local swimmers, after the sailors had led for most of the distance.
