AVIATION.

FLIGHT TO MOUNT COOK. At 8 o’clock this morning Captain Euan Dickson will leave tho Sockburn aerodrome oil a flight to Mount Cook by way of Fairiie. His passengers from Christchurch to Fnirlie will be Mr 11. L. Wigley and Mr R. Banks, engineer to the Mackenzie County, Prom Fairiie to Mount Cook and back Mr T. D. Burnett, M.P. for Temuka. will make tho pioneer flight with another passenger. . The flight has been undertaken for the purpose of making an aerial survey ol tno route to Mount Cook, in connection with the newly-formed company which Mr Wigley represents. This company, which will be advised in tho selection of machines by Captain Dickson, proposes to obtain four passenger machines with which to carry passengers from Timaru to Mount Cook, and from there to tho West Coast, while trips will also be made from Mount Cook to Queenstown and back. Captain Dickson will probably cover the 100 miles to Fairiie in an hour and a half. 011 arrival lie will refill his petrol tanks and make engine adjustments if necessary. Mr .J. £. Moore, mechanic to the company, went south yesterday for tlie purpose and will bo at Fairiie to-night. Captain Dickson will leave Fairiie for Mount Cook at about 10.30 a.m. The distance there and back by air is about 100 miles. No landing will be made, but the country will be closely observed. 011 the rebprn to Fairiie at .about noon, pilot and passengers will bo entertained at luncheon.. Captain Dickson will fly back on Friday morning with Mr Hunter Weston and his son. Hie machine be will use is the Avro 4237, which made the. trip to Invercargill. The Avro will take to Mount Cook a small number of copies of to-day’s “ Lyttelton Times,” which will bo delivered at Fairiie and dropped at the Hermitage.
