SPORTING.

Acceptances for the North Otago Jockey Club’s winter meeting will close at seven o’clock this evening. The .serntellings at the Royal race meeting on Saturday totalled twentyseven. an unusually large number for a day’s racing at Kiccarton. The fact that tho acceptances closed ten days before tho meeting was probably the chief cause, while there were several cases of horses being engaged in more than one event.

J. Tilsley has been engaged to ride Waimai in the Great Northern Steeplechase, and lie will go north with the Spalpeen gelding this week. The Trentham trainer, J. W. Lowe, who had Coalition and Seadown racing at Riccarton on Saturday, has made arrangements to take them north for the Auckland Racing Club’s winter meeting. He will leave Wellington by Thursday’s train. A Sydney message states that the New Zealand horse, Master Aloutoa, fell in Tattersalls Hurdles and is crippled. He is unlikely to race again.

WANGANUI TRAINING NOTES. [Per Prks9 Association.] WANGANUI, May 15. A number of visiting horses arrived this morning. Zola ran right away from Kauri King in a spin over the hurdles. Guanaco, Manhattan and Sir Solo were associated over the, big fences. Guanaco came to grief after going half a mile, but the other two jumped well, Sir Solo showing an improvement on his previous efforts.
