CONFERENCE AT OAMARU. i [Pee Pxess Association'.] OAMARU, May 12. A conference of branches of tin.' South Island Potato-growers' Association was held at Oamaru tonight, Mr J. S. Johnston presiding. Several remits from the North Canterbury, South Canterbury and Waimate branches were endorsed.. Consideration waa given to the cable stating that importation of potatoes into the Commonwealth from New Zealand was prohibited on account of serious disease. The secretary was instructed to. forward a copy of the cable to the Minister of Agriculture and Mr Burnett, M.P., Temuka, stating that there was no disease in the crop and asking for investigation. It was decided that a deputation should wait on the Prim© Minister and the Minister of Agriculture for the_ purpose of laying before them facts in connection with the potato market,, which at present wa* in an unsatisfactory state.
