Brittin (Brisbane), who has been visiting her-oM home town, gave a farewell tea to a number or nor friends. Tho tables 'were artistically decorated with cerise flowers and maidenhair fern. Those present besides the hostess were Mrs K. Garnck, Mrs G Fisher, Mrs M'Bride, Mrs Baker, Mrs M. S. Brown, Mrs Fenwick, Mrs Schmidt and the Misses AVilson. The residents of Lismore met on Friday evening to bid farewell to Miss Foster and Miss Watson, both of whom have been teaching in the school, and are leaving to take up new positions. Miss Foster, head mistress, will go to Cambridge as mistress of a church, school to be opened shortly, and Miss Watson will take up a position at the Timaru School. During tho evening Miss Foster was presented with a cheque and Miss Watson with a mamcure set. A short programme was submitted, complimentary speeches wore made, and after supper had been served a danco was held.
The greenstone necklace, which fcb* girls' branch of the Wellington Navy League have presented to Princess Mary is a very fine piec3 of work, being made of long links of very clear translucent greenstone, alternated with heavy gold links, and. is finished with a little carved merp. The necklace is contained in a satin lined case, with a gold painted card bearing greetings to Ull.H. Princess Mary, from tho girls branch of the Navy League .in Wellington. Tho gift was presented at the Navy League danco on Saturday nightto H.B.H- the Prince of Wales for his Bister, the presentation, which was qmto informal, being made by Miss Lulu Dyer, the secretary of the branch, anu a grand-daughter of tho late Bight Hon R. One of the Canterbury pioneers, in the person of Mrs J. Goggin, was the guest of honour at a gathering held a». the family residence, at the corner of Hill's Road and Gresford Street, on Monday evening. There wag a.large attendance of relatives, three generations being represented. The occasion was the 60th anniversary of Mrs Goggin's arrival in Canterbury, she naving reached Lyttelton by the ship Gannonoquo on May 10, 1860. The function was a thorough enjoyable one, consisting of a musical programme, followed by an excellent supper. During an Interval, Mr James Haughey, a nephew of Mrs Goggin, made a. speech congratulating her on attaining the diamond jubilee of her arrival in New Zealand. Mr C. Goggin responded for his mother, and, on behalf of her children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, presented hor with a suitable memento. The Rev Father Seymour also spoke, extending his felicitations to Mrs Goggin and testifying to the fine character of the old pioneers. The ceremony was completed with musicol honoure.
