DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIP. [Per Press Association.] TRENTHAM, March 9. “ Washing-up ” day at Tientham was ash. ered in by a leaden sky and steady rain, which threatened to continue all day. Alter shooting had been in progress for an hour, tho clouds broke. The sun shone fitfully for a time and then, after lunch, it broke tho clouds into drifting masses that _at * times caused quick changes in the light and formed an allianco with the fitful breeze that rr discomfited the marksmen. This did not ; matter so much in the morning, when team* were doing service matches at short ranges. Some good work was done at these. The “Chattie.” or casualty competition, was fired at 200yds, in heats of six, ten rounds per man at falling targets. It waa won by the Christchurch Rifle Club No. Ji Team, taking £7 and’-the Islington Cup. - Opaki No. 1 Team was second, taking £il Permanent Staff (Canterbury), third, taking £2; and Nelson Regiment fourth, taking £2. A popular win was that of the Hamilton High School w Cadet team in the machine-gun rescue match, in which the riflemen had to dispose of eight figure targets, representing men. working a machine-gun 200 yards away. This they accomplished in 245f10 taking £7 . and the Dawson Shield. P. and T. Engineers were second in 27sec taking £4; Permanent Staff (Canterbury) third, in SSseo, a takiijg £2; Dunedin Rifle Club fourth, in 28seo, taking £2; and Wellington Suburbs ■* and Akarana divided the other £2, their ® time being 23sec. " In the Superiority of Fire competition, at 300yds, teams firing eight rounds • from behind cover at figure targets, Christchurch R.C. No. 1 won with a score of 64, taking •£7. Karori came second, taking £4, with 62; Nelson R.C. took £3, with 61; Petona R.C. £3, with 61; P. and T. Engineers (Wellington) and Kaiapoi R.C. £1 each, with score 3 of 60. After luncheon the Champion Teams’ match, for which twenty-nine entries had been received, was fired, seven shots each at 800, &00 and 600 yards. It was hard shooting all the way, and some bad falls were seen. Blenheim and Christchurch No. 1 tied with 449 points, the former winning on the count back. Hawcra was only on# point behind. Each member of the team receives a silver tecup. Opaki No. 1, 2117, was second, and Christchurch No. 1 .followed with £394. Others of the twenty-six entries trailed rapidly off down-hill. The C.A.C. Cup went to Opaki , No. 1 with 891 points for five-men team's best scores over long ranges. . Christchurch No. 1 was second with 885. and 1 Suburbs No. I third with 577. The C.I. The special match over 300, 500 and 600yds, ten shots at each, resulted in T. W. Warbur-* ton (Petone) taking £2 and gold medal witW a score of 131. A. J. Pietorsen (Ponsonby) took £2 with 180; C. G. Engstrom (Opaki) £1 with 130, and A. H. Dixon (Akarana) Aleva th 129. In addition there was a small prize-list for each stage of the mutch.
