WAIMAIRL An ordinary moating: of the Wnimairi County Council was heal last ovening, when tnero wore present —Councillors W. r l . tipoucer (chairman), J. Clsland, J. P. W. iiuc, J. A. J. Urea, C. iih. Cross and W. J. Waiver. A deputation waited upon the council from til© Shirley BcLoel Comnuttoo. It was pointed out that/ enough money had been raised to purchase an extra throe acres for a playground, and the deputation urged the necessity ol grading the footpath on the Wniinairi oido and channelling it in the same way as on the city side. It was decided that the footpath should bo formed. Another deputation was received from the Shirley district in reference to the Shirley loan. The spokesman said that the loan was raised three dr four years ago for channelling, and a rate was struck at scqonoighths of a penny in the £. Siliqe tjien the valuation had about doubled, and it was contended that the rate should go down. It was underotood as the valuation increased that the rate would deoreaso. It was pointed out to the deputation that tho money was raised on debentures; and they were for ten years. The more that •was' ipoid now the loan would be wiped off in shorter time. What was in hand now would go to paying off the debenture account. The matter was referred to the Finance Committee. The Canterbury Automobile Association was granted permission to erect at each end of tho Waimakariri Bridge a board bearing tho name of the rivor. In regard to correspondence from the Heathcoto County Council regarding the proportion estimated to be paid by Waimairi in connection with the Burwood Bridge, if was decided! to write to the Government against paving any more than the Originally estimated first cost. In oomolinnco with a request from tho Canterbury Progress League, it was decided to communicate with the Minister of Public Works urging tho speody completion of the Pest and West Coast railway. A petition from the workmen asking for a rise in wages on account of the high cost! of living was referred to the Finance Committee. ,
