NEWS AND NOTESThe appeal of the jockeys, Harold and George Young, against the cancellation of their licenses by the Canterbury District Committee, will be heard in Wellington on Saturday. On account of her two successes at the Akaroa County meeting, Sleepy Head, has incurred a 171 b penalty ton the Mackenzie Handicap and the Recovery Handicap at Cheviot, while Henrietta, for her win at the same meeting, has earned 101 b extra m the Cheviot Cup and the Spotswood Welter Handicap. ' Mr H. Nurse acted as stipendiary steward at the Akaroa County Racing Club’s meeting on Saturday, and, though he had no serious matters to attend to, he was kept very busy with small details. Mr C. H. Piper, who has just returned from doing a circuit in the Poverty Bay district, lent able assistance, and took special care of the trotting events.

It is reported from Invercargill that Belgian King broke down on Saturday when galloping, at Riccarton and that he is unlikely to race again.

The inaugural totalisator meeting of the Cheviot Racing Club will be held on Saturday next, Maroh 13. There will be a caterer’s booth on the ground, and hot water will be supplied. A special train will leave Christchurch at 6.45 a.m.
