Tho Governor-General and suite went south yesterday. - His Excellency will pasw through Christchurch on his way to Wellington on Saturday. A Sydney cablo message announces the death of Edward Noyes, governing director of Noyes Bros., engineers, who carried out important contracts in New Zealand, including the installation of tho Dunedin electric tramways. Mr W- Helsdon, manager of the Opera 'House, returned t-o Christohuroh from Dunedin last- night. Mr R. Fuller, who has relieved him in Christchurch for about two weeks ; will return to Wellington this evening. Mr C. W. Hervey, secretary of the Canterbury Aviation Company ,returned' to Christchurch yesterday from the south, where ho has been engaged in connection with Captain Dickson’s flying tour. Mr Hervey null go south again in a day or two. At tho conclusion of the business of tho Waimairi County Council last evening, the chairman (Mr W. P. Spencer) made reference to the pending retirement from tho council of Mr J. P. W. Lee on account of his leaving the district. Mr Lee, the chairman said, had been a most energetic member of the council, •• n:l had worthily represented the Avon riding. He moved that a resolution should be placed on the minutes in recognition of the value of Mr Lee’s services. After other members of tho board had spoken appreciatively of Mr Lee’s work on tho council, the, motion was carried amidst applauso. ' Three prominent officials of the Y.M.O.A. movement—Mr T. Thomas, chairman of tho National Committee of the Y.M.O.A. of Australia, Mr J. Henry Lang, national general secretary for Australia, and Mr William Owens, 8.A., general secretary for Australasia for foreigu work—are expected to arrive in Christchurch this morning from the north. During the war period Mr Thomas, who is a retired business man, presided as official head in Australia. Mr Thomas intends to visit the various centres of New Zealand in connection with Y.M.O.A. work. Mr Owens expects to leave shortly for India, where ho is to represent the association in Hyderabad.
