[Pub Pekss Association.] DUNEDIN, March 7. Tho band contest concluded on Saturday. Ideal weather prevailed for tho' quickstep championship, over twenty thousand persons being present at tho Caledonian G'rounds, tho takings exceeding £BOO. The financial success o£ tho contest is assured. Results:— Military Display and Quickstep; first prizo £SO, second .£'2s, third .£lO, fourth £s— 2GB points, 1; Woolslon and Wanganui, 205 (equal), 2; South Canterbury Regiment, 259, *l. Other competitors—lnvercargill Hibernia u 2555, Palmerston North 2495, Ninth Hawke's Hay 211, Tenth Regimental (Blenheim) 23G$, Auckland City 235, St Ivilda. 233, Twelfth Nelson and Marlborough 229, Waterside Workers (Wellington) 229, Ist Canterbury Regimental 2275, Domain Band (Invercargill) 227, Dannevirke Municipal 2245, Lyttelton Marino 2215, Winton Municipal 1965, Christchurch Tramway 191.
Tho B-flftt cornet championship solo was won by B. Wills (Invercargill Hibernian) with 4G, H. Fox (Woolslon) next with 44, W. H. Osborne (Bth South Canterbury) third with 40. Tho recalls were—S. Williams (\Voolston) 3G, ,T. M’Grath (Wanganui Garrison) 32, M, K. Mara (2nd South Canterbury) 28. TEST SELECTIONS. ' Tho following aro tho points gained by each band in tho test selections: “ Roberto
njauaua iviariuo . izo rxo A message from Dunedin states that the cornet championship, decided on Saturday night, was won by Wills (Invercargill Hibernian), with Fox (Woolston) second and Osborne (Timaru) third. Wills is twentytwo years of ago, and is without question tho best of tho Dominion’s young cornetists. 110 gnined second placo in tho cornet championship at tho Christchurch contest of 1915. Fox first won the championship in 190 G, and his last success was in 1915, tit Christchurch. Hie has never been placed lower than second. Wills is a son of tho conductor of tho Invercargill Hibernian Band, Mr A. R. Wills. There wore six members of tho Wills family in tho band, father, and five sons. Tho position of tho Woolston Band on tho first evening was a matter of general comment, tho opinion of quito a number of experts being that it had put up a very fine performance.
