BOOTS ARE JUMPING.
PUBLIC BUYING' HEAVILY.
STILL TIME TO EFFECT BIG SAYINGS.
Already the lifting of the embargo on hides has increased wholesale prices oi footwear, and’ in many cases retail prices are affected as well. A “ Tunes ” representative investigating the local trade, found tWt Christchurch factories arc increasing their prices, and this increase is being passed on to the customer "by the retailer handling their lines. In more than on© instance the retailer was prepared to show invoices proving the necessity for higher retail prices. On Saturday morning Mr Stewart Robinson’s boot Store in Cashel ■ Street was visited and found to be literally swarming with customers. TWeVe had tho week of our lives," said Mr Stewart Robinsion, “ and I believo the same applies all over the Dominion. People see tho opportunity to savo a big lump of cash by buying their hoots ahead of requirements—boot prices are jumping up and up, and 7s 6d and over is to he saved by buying now." How aro you off for stock? Mr Stewart Robinson replied that " ho was proud of having secured a very considerable lot of boots during the last ten days. These are being sold at the old prices, and all sales this coming week will be continued ■cn the same genuine t old price© as last week. Of course, these bargains must como to an end, but wo are doing everything we can to defer it. We’re picking up all the stock we can in New Zealand', irrespective of what it costs us. Agents are acting for us all over tho Dominion, and we are travelling a’ lot ourselves.” A lady, burdened with a large parcel of footwear and showing unmistakabk signs of being greatly pleased with he! purchases, then approached Mr Stewarf Robinson and said: “If yon keep op keeping prices down like this you will get all tho trad© of m working folk.’ 1 “That’s my motto,” Mr Robinson replied, “ keep prices down—and I’m going on keeping ’em down." 1
