Mr Ellingworth, of Melbourne, is in town.
Mr W. Rutherford, Masterton, is at present in Christchurch.
Mr Wickenden has returned to Christchurch after a trip south.
Mr Maurioe Davis arrived in Christchurch from London on Saturday.
Messrs W. A. Briscoe and R. G. Brisooe arrived from tho north yesterday.
Dr Alexander Wilson and Mr R. Baddeley, both of Wanganui, aro in Christchurch. Messrs F. Johnston and J. D. Cunningham, of Dunedin, are at present in Christchurch.
Mr Arthur Lilly, A.R.0.0., has been appointed musical judge for the Masterton Competitions to be hold in May. Mr Sidney Williamson, who is making a visit to Great Britain, will leave by the Miararoa this evening to join the Ruapehu'at Wellington. Messrs H. A. Ellis, J. H. M’Kay, J. M. Bollinger, G. Warren, W. G. M!Donald, D. W. Dutliie, C. S. A. Weatherlake and W. Callender, all of Wellington, arrived in Christchurch during the week-end.
It is announced in the January issue of “United Empire” that tho following New Zealanders have been elected Fellows of the Royal Colonial Institute: —Mi - John Anderson, Mr Norton Francis, Mr M. L. Reading and Mr George Rhodes, Christchurch; Mr J. F. Buchanan, Little River; Mr James Berry, Mr G. L. Evans and Mr W. G. Maclaurin, Gisborne; Mr Geoffrey W. A. Norton, Auckland.
Mr J. Hiddlestone, who has been as-sistant-secretary of tho Y.M.O.A. in Christchurch sirtce his return from the front, left on Saturday for Dunedin, where he intends to study for the ministry. Prior to his departure the resident members and staff of the YM.C.A. presented Mr Hiddlestone with a framed illuminated address as a token of their regard.
On Saturday night Mr Kennedy Black, who severed his connection with Liberty Theatre, was presented with a handsome travelling hag by the staff at Liberty. Mr Black goes north tonight to rejoin Mr John Hopkins as business manager of Tho Dandies, now touring New Zealand. Mr L. H. Wilson, from the Wellington head office of Now Zealand Picture Supplies, takes over the reins of management at Liberty from to-day. A gathering of Harbour Board officials' took •place on Saturday morning, for tho purpose of saying good-bye to Mr Fletcher Garliek, who has resigned the position of chief engineer of the tug in order to join Messrs Royd’s Motors, Ltd. Captain A. H. Thorpe (harbormaster)'presided, and after some happy remarks, presented Mr Garliek with a suit case from the staff., Soveral departmental officers expressed good wishes for the guest’s future happiness and prosperity. Mr Garliek suitably responded. Mr J. P. Firtli, Principal of Wellington College, intends to relinquish his position at the end of the present year. Mr Firth has been connected with the College for over 34 years. He was born at Cobden, Greyinouth, where ho won a scholarship which took him to Nelson College. Subsequently he graduated B.A. at Canterbury College. His first appointment was that of assistant master at Nelson College, and six years later lie accepted a position at Wellington College. After five years in Wellington Mr Firtli was appointed one of the masters at Christ's College, Christcliuroh, but in 1802, at tho end of five years and a-half. he returned to take up his present position as headmaster of Wellington College.
