A FEAST OF MUSIC.

N.S.W. ORCHESTRA AN© MISS DAISY KENNEDY, The dislocation of the N.S.W. Qrches : tra'a plans by the failure of the Maori to leave Lyttelton on Thursday night has enabled Mr Verbrugghen and the managers of the orchestra to fix two extra concerts in the Theatre Royal this afternoon and to-night, at three o'clock and eight o'clock, an arrangement they were intensely keen on making during the first season of the orchestra here, but pre-arranged plans had to be abided by. The proverbial benefits of an ill—w'ind will fall to Christchurch musiclovers, as in addition to the orchestra arrangements have been made with Messrs J. and N. Tait for MiBS-Daisy Kennedy, the brilliant violinist who is enchanting Christchurch' with her marvellous violin playing, to join forces with the orchestra and appear in conjunction with them at both concerts, providing a musical treat which will happen probably only onco in a lifetime!* so far as Christchurch is concerned. It was tho combination of Miss Kennedy and tho N.S.W. State Orchestra that broke the record for the Saturday concerts in -tho vast Sydney Town Hall, when the services of tho police were required to adjust matters and get the overflow into tho streets, as all Sydney seemed to make up its mind to bo present at that particular (concept; ,aaid even at so short notice two crowded houses should bo present this afternoon and to-night to hear the magnificent programmes Mr Verbrugghen has drawn up. Miss Kennedy's items for tho matinee programme will include the SaintSaens Concerto in B minor for violin and orchestra, and a group of unaccompanied pieces bv Bach. At the evening concert Bho will play the famous Mendelssohn Concerto for violin and orchestra, and the Saint-Saens Introduction and Rondo Capricrioso for violin and orchestra. The orchestra's numbers for the afternoon will be:—Scottish overture, " The Land of tho Mountain and the Flood " (Hamish MaeCuun), tho or- ' chestral suite "Peer Gynt" (Ed. Greig), overture and nocturne from " A Midsummer Might's Dream" (Mendelssohn), prelude and mazurka from the Coppelia Ballet (L. Delibes). Mdmo Viceroy-Goossens will sing the Jewel Song from "Faust" and tho ballad "When the Tired Winds" from Alfred Hill's " Hinemoa." The orchestral numbers for the evening concert include overture "Carnaval Remain" (Berlioz), ballet suite " Casso Noisette " (Tschaikowsky) prelude to Act 111, "Lohengrin" (Wagner) and fantasia on British Sea Songs, arranged by H. Verbrugghen, is being played by request. Monsieur Albert Goossens will sing Rysoor's aria from " Patrie " (Paladihle) and tangi " Weep O'er tho Warrior Dead" (Alfred Hill). In consequence of this arrangement Miss Kennedy's recital arranged for tonight will necessarily be cancelled, and tickets already reserved may be transferred to Tuesday evening's recital. The box plans "will bo at Tho Bristol from nine o'clock this morning until 12.30, and afterwards at the Toy Cavo. The day sales are at tho Toy Cave, The Bristol and Milner and Thompson's.
