UREN r. MEEKIN. [Per Peess Association.] DUNEDIN, February 12. A boxing competition botweeJi Tommy Uren, champion of Australia, .and Davo Meokin, champion of the Orient, took place to-night. The competition, was fifteen thieeminute rounds for a purse of £4OO, £230 to the winner and £l7O to the loser. It was hold under the auspices of the Otago Boxing Association. The contest proved _ rather disappointing from a spectator's point of view. In the third round Mcekin went down foxnine seconds to a couple of short arm jolts to the jaw, and ho was obviously dazed and want down again for eight and eeven seconds. In the ninth Tound he was down again for eight, then seven and the referee stopped the fight aaid gave the verdict to TJren. GISBORNE, February 12. In a fifteen-round professional boxing contest between Tom Heeney (Gisborne) and W. Bartlett (Murchison), Bartlett quitted after the eighth round, declaring that Heeney was to-o strong, and he (Bartlett) would have no chance of suocess. The display was not a aucoess. It was not one-sided, but was fairly lame.
