CHRISTCHURCH GOLF CLUB.
The annual report of the Christchurch Golf Club for last year states that thirtyeight members joined, the roll now showing 187 active members, thirty-nine country members, thirty-eight honorary members, two junior and nine life members. Expenditure during the year was heavier than usual, due to improvements being made to the course and to the increased cost of labour and material. The overdraft has been increased, but there is a larger balance oft assets over liabilities. The club has purchased eleven acres of land as an addition to the course. The committee mentions with regret the demise of Sir John Denniston, & past president; Ml- J. P. Murpftiy, a com-* mitteoman; and Mr W. F. Newman. Wrnners of challenge oups during tne year are: —A. E. G. Rhodes Bowl, Miss ■D. Oowlishaw) and A. E. Conway; Denniston Cup., T. A. B. Bailey; Islington Cup, Mrs Green and J. 0. Jameson; club championship, H. B. Lusk; Cox Cup, L. Hansen; Canterbury championship, H. B. Lusk; Borthwick Vase, E. M. Macfarlarie; Wardrop Cleek, Mrs Symes and J. R. Montgomery; War Memorial Cup (first competition for challenge trophy pre-t sented by Mr William Wood to commemorate the close of the war), H. B. Lusk.
