PATRIOTIC FUNDS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir.—l returned by the Ruahhxe and my discharge is just to hand. I recently applied to the Canterbury Patriotic: Society, which application was transferred to Wellington, from which contra I enlisted. The reoly I received embodied the following^—" As you. are a single man without dependents and not in necessitous circumstances, the WWellington society consider that it cause you no inconvenience to parefcuse your requirements without their aisistance." The facts are these:—l did not caWo for practically the whole of my allotment and waste it in riotous jiving in, England. I did not increase the Iwaeu on this country by bringing o tit a J Erglish wife for whom I had no hon-e. In I have a few modest pounds, every penny of which I can do with. The above facts were quite honestly placed before the Wellington Society when making an application for a clothing grant to supplement the absurdly inadequate £5 6s granted by the Defence Department. In brief, I am excluded because I did not pitch a hard luck tale and was careful of njy pay and allotment. If the abovq is not an example of misplaced bounnyand the placing of a premium on profligacy I don't know what is.—l am, etc., FAIR DEAL,
