The Hotel and Restaurant Employees' Union is claiming a forty-foul* hour week, consisting of five days and a half. The wages claimed range from £4 10s for general servants to £7 10a for cooks. ONE BIG UNION. SYDNEY, February IS. The Australian Workers' Union conference on a committee's report definitely turned down the foundation of One Big Union. WINTER BUTTER. MELBOURNE, February 12. The Butter Pool Committee has decided to place 100,000 boxes in cold storage as a reserve for the winter requirements of the Commonwealth.
