THE METROPOLITAN MARKET. HEAVY ENTRY OF STORE SHEEP. -Brilliant weather was experienced for this week's metropolitan market at Addington yards yesterday, , and the attendance, consequently, was large. In the early part of the eale late rates were generally maintained. There was an exceptionally large entry of store eheoj? and lambs, a smaller yarding of fat ' sheep, not quite so largo an entry of fat cattle, and a moderate entry of pigs, quality being excellent, demand keen, and good prices being realised. The innovation of commenc- ■ ing the sale of vealers earlier was appreciated by buyers and others interested. FAT There was an entry of 280 head of fat ccttlo at the commencement of the sale, which wa3 increased as the sale progressed to 319. Tho quality was principally prune : and the market opened on a par with last week's rates. The sale was practioally a : replica of hist week's, with this difference that the secondary stuff was better and commanded increased prices. There was a fair yarding of dairy cows, which included several pedigreed Shorthorn animals fromi the • Mental Hospital. These brought up to 81 guineas. Springers realised up to £lB 10s, good first calvers to £l4 10s, second, third and fourth calvers £l2 10s to £l6; others from £8 to £ll. VEALERS. STORE SHEEP. The yarding of store sheep was the heaviest of the season, all the store pen accommodation being utilised and numberß having to be placed on the open briok portion of the yards. The entry was well varied with ewes, wethers and lambs, the latter claiming the majority in numbers. Lambs opened at slightly lower rates than last week. There w{is a spirited demand for forward sorts and rates for these were well maintained. Any backward lambs sold less freely. A fair number of ewes were passed, sellers asking higher rates than buyers at present are prepared to give. Quotations: Forward lambs 22s to 255. Ordinary lambs 16s to 20s Gd. Low conditioned ard inferior lambs 14s 9d to 15s 6d. Cull lambs 6sj 3d to lis. Good two-tooth half-bred ewes to 83s lOd. Good two-tooth croBS-bred ewes 32s Id to 32s 6d. Good four-tooth ewes 84s.' A small entry of store pigs met with fairly good demand, and prices were practically the same as at last week's sale, namely:— Best stores £3 to £4. Medium sorts £2 7s 6d to £2 19s. Small stores £2 to £2 12s 6d. Weaners £1 6s to £1 17s 6d. Sows in pig to £8 2s 6d.
