ELLESMERE, The General Committee of the _ Ellesmere Agricultural and Pastoral Association met at Leeston <xn Thursday afternoon, Mr W. Scott . (president) presiding. An interim statement of accounts as at January 14 showed bank balance £143 4s Gd, outstanding subscriptions £92, special prizes i £l6. The acoounts to be passed for payment totalled £lO3 17s 6d. There would be a surplus of £143 17*. The president said that the main business of the meeting was to receive suggestions for ,the nest show. Anything brought forward Tvoald be fully considered at the annual meeting. It was very desirable to have all the stumps removed from the ground, also to have tho ladies’ room brought more up-to-date; to have more cattle pens; and to have tv flower show in connection with the jubilee 1 Mr Barnett suggested that there should be .» two days' show this year. A meeting of the General Committee of the Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held on Saturday afternoon, the [president (Mr A. Horsey) being in the chair, f A letter was read from the Misses Watson, [thanking the association for a letter of sym* '■pathy in regard to the death of their father the late Mr John Watson, an old and valuedl member of the association. On the motion of Mr 0. Bold, it was dojcided to increase to £2O per annum the rent {charged to the Ashburton Technical Association for the use of the Show Grounds for kho sheep-shearing classes. A letter was rend from Mr W. M. Anderon. la to farm manager and fat stock gToder iat the Fairfield Freezing Works, expressing fhis regret that ho would not this year be [represented amongst the exhibitors of Border ‘Leicester sheep. He aooepted with pleasure ■ the association’s request that he Bhould act [as ono of the judges at the autumn show, lin March next. Ho also had pleasure in offering a special prize of three guineas for the beat six-norse farm team. Mr Anderson’s letter was received with ap»fplsuse, and it was decided to thank him. . ! Mr Joseph Harris and Mr A. Patrick were ©looted members of the association, Tho Ground Committee recommended that ■twenty-four new cattle pens and thirty-two I new sheep pens be erected, at a oost of about ; £3OO. Mr Reid said that an additional thirty- ' two sheep pens could be erected if the sheepowners would contribute about £4O. Cn pro* vi-ous occasions they had subscribed liberclly, and he thought they might do so again. Mr D. G. Wright had already offered to contribute towards an additional thirty-two pens, .‘and if these could be added there would o© '•a additional sixty-four pens. The report was adopted. , The arrangements for the luncheon at the ; eutumtr show were left in the hands of ths [Reception and Rule* Oommitteo. ! A lengthy list of special prizes whioh Had bean offered was read, amongst the donations being £35 5s by the president, £l4 14a by /ths Ashburton Trotting Club, £l3 by Mr D. •G. Wright, and £lO 10s by Mr John Grigg. ■The total amounted to about £l5O, and the .secretary said ho knew of other special prizes which would! be offered. A few more special prizes were required for the soldiers’ classes. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the (donors of special prizes, as a whole.
