SPORTING.

NEWS AND NOTES. vSevom! Canterbury trainers have arrived at Hutt Park to. assist at tbe WelJintiion Trotiing Club’s meeting this week. B. Jarden is on the scene with Author Dillon, Birdwood and Chaos; F. Holmes, with Emperor; A. Fleming, with Bigamist, Partner; Wonderland and Glen Mavis; and J. Bryoe with Cathedral Chimps, Lo'chnagar and Captain Rothschild. The Wellington sportsman, Mr H. W. Brown, is confined to his room, and it is not certain if he will be well enough to attend the Wellington Racing Olnh’s meeting, at which the imported horse Arrbwsmith will he one of nis representatives. The withdrawal of Vagabond from the Wellington Cup will enable H. Gray to have the mount on Surveyor. The horseman named has ridden two previous winners of the race—Miss Mischief and Kilrain. Sasanof appears to have made a good recovery from his recent lameness, as he has been nominated for the Taranaki Cup. Two Canterbury stables, are represented among the nominations for the Taranaki Cup. Mr G. D. Greenwood has Karo and Falstaff in the list, while Mr G. L. Stead claims Kilmoon, Bonetter and Starland. Although twenty-eight horses were left in the Wellington Stakes after final payment, it is not expected the field will be a big one. Probably Murihiku, Weary Willie, Gasbag, Moorfowl and Right and Left will take part. The judge’s box at the Wellington 1 Trotting Club’s course has been shifted back fifteen, feet from the racing track. This is an innovation on New Zealand racecourses, though it is one that has frequently been recommended as worthy of general adoption.
