MOTOR-BOAT RACING.
Groat interest was taken on Saturday a&* ternoon in tho motor-boat racing at Lyttelton, for launches not exceeding a speed of six knoti, over the 9.1 knot course. ■ ThfcSSei were nine starters, and. the event -. was* sealed handicap. Bosults:—L. Sinclair, 40seo, 1; D. Wareham, scr, 2. Won by lmin 60sco. Winner's time—lhr 28min S4sec. Even more enthusiasm was shown yesterday morning in a raco over the same course between the Cock o' the Walk and the Firefly. The latter, in a challenge race for £l3 ■a-side, was beaten previously, and the owners challenged the CoGk o' the Walk to another race for £25 a-side. Both boats reached the starting line for a flying start nicely together. The Firefly from tho start took a slight lead. The distance to tho re«t beacon - was negotiated in six minutes, th* Firefly leading her opponent by about fot!8 lengths. At the Parsons Bock buoy betweeS Ripa Island and Diamond Harbour the Cool o' tho Walk was 6Sseo behind. On returning ; tt> the reef beacon the Firefly, going well, had increased her lead to lmin SSsec, and «t the Parson's Rock buoy to 2min S3sec, finishin,j the course in lhr lQmin 2oseo, with the Cock o' the Walk 3min 24soc behind. The weather conditions could not have been better for the race.
FINAL FOR ROWLAND TROPHY. Tho final race for tho Rowland trophy was hold by tho Brighton Power Boat Club on Saturday. Results Taumuru 1 Ngaire 9 Sylavus 3 Time—23min. The other contestants finished in tho following order:—Halcyon, Rata, Endarra, Enquirer, Mischief. A slight mishap spoiled Mischief’s chanoos of winning.
