WELCOME HOME.
FUNCTION AT LYTTELTON. Tho social hall of tho Lyttelton Club presented a very animated seine last evening on the occasion of a peace re-union and smoke concort in honour of members of the club who have returned from active servico. Over o hundred persons attended, amongst whom were tho Mayor (Mr W. T. Lester), who presided, Mr E. H. Green (president of the club), Colonel C. J. Cooper, Lieutenant A. Stevens (representing the R.S.A.), Captain A. M. W. Evendon, Chaplain F. L. Frost and Captain J. Carson (Lyttelton Fire Brigade). Mx Lester, in opening tho function, said that this was a most historic event in connection with the Lyttelton Club. Ho hoped thut thoso present would be ablo to demonstrate to- tho returned men tho esteem in which they wero held by tho rest of the club members for having gone forward to defend tho Empiro. i/uxing tho evening several toasts were honoured, including those of “ Tho King," proposed by Mr W. T. Lester;- ‘‘The Returned Men,’-’ proposod by tho president (Mr E. H. Green), responded to by Captain Evenden and Private C. F. Smith; “Kindred Clubs,” by Mr F. G. H. Warner; “The. Ladies,” proposed by Mr E. H. Henderson, and responded to by Chaplain F. L. Frost; " Boys That Went West,” by M!r W. T. Lestor; “The Lyttelton Club,” by Mr T. Charters; “The Army and Navy," by the Rov F. L. Frost; “The Mayor and Borough Council,” by Mr A. K. Smith; and “The' Chairman,” by Mr E. H. Henderson. A duot was contributed by Messrs J. Cox and R. Harrison, songs by Mossrs P. Jones,- A. Sincloir, A. Young, H. G. Lane, J. Cox and M. Moody. Tho guost3 of tho evening were Captain W. D. Bradley, Lieutenant H. A. Rhind, Second-Lieutenant C. E. Gilmore, Sergeant A. G. Sinclair, Sergeant R. W. Hillsdon, Corporal A. IC. Smith, Gunners F. W. Collins, T. E. Gellety, F. J. M’Conville, P. Rndcliffo, J. H. Wyatt, A. J. Tomson, C. A. M. M’Cormick, B. J. Muir, Fitter T. Reardon, Drivers S. M. Diamond, W. W. Toy, Privates H. Bums, W. H. Harkess, C. F. Smith, ond Rifleman F. L. Davis. • During tho evening tho Mayor (Mr W. T. Lester) unveiled the club’s roll of honour.
