INVESTITURE.
• v ORDER OF THE BRITISH EMPIRE. At noon on Saturday,'at tho Provincial Council Chambers, his Excellency, the Governor-General (Lord Liverpool) held an investiture -of recipients of the Order of the British Empire. There was a fairly large attendance of citizens, including the Mayor (Dr Thacker, M.P.), who wore his robe and chain of office. A guard of honour tvns provided by the Boys’ High School Cadets, and the cadot band was also present. His Excellency, wearing the uniform of the King’s household, was accompanied by the Countess of Liverpool. The recipients of the decorations were as follow: THIRD CLASS OR "COMMANDER” , (C.8.E.) Colonel G. J. Smith (military division). . ' Mr Henry Holland (civil division). Mr R. M. Macdonald (civil division). Mr A. O. Day (civil division). FOURTH CLASS OR “ OFFICER ” (0.8. E.) Mr V. G. Day. Mr G. E. Rhodes. FIFTH CLASS OR "MEMBER” (M.8.E.) Mr A. M. Adams. Mrs M. B. Blackwell. Mrs Z. F. Courage. Mr T. E. Gunnion. Miss A. B. B. Guthrie. Mr 11. G. Hci~"ve. Mrs E. Carey HilL Mrs M. M. A. ilislop. Mrs N. G. Moling. Mr J. D. Mill ton. Mrs L. M. Smith. j Mrs F. J. Stevenson. \ Mr B. E. H. Tripp. MILITARY CROSS. Lieutenant G. G. Rich. This officer was awarded the M.O. for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in defence of a post on the left, which ho held with fifteen men and two Hotchkiss guns on April 12, 1918, at Huit Maisons Post and La Bassee Canal bridges. Although turned and bombed he retreated inwards and saved the trench system by a local counterattack. Later, news arriving that the enemy were moving down to a bridge, he was ordered to gallop his troops there, and arriving simultaneously with the enemy he attacked, drove ’them back and re-established the bridgehead. PRESENTATION OF CERTIFICATES. His Excellency also presented to Major J. It. Thomas and Captain M. (J. Louisson, Honorary Associates of the Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem in Fmgland, the certificates granted them by tho Grand Priory of the Order.
