BOY SCOUTS.

INSPECTION BY GOVERNORGENERAL. His Excellency the Governor-General inspected the Christchurch and R-angi-ora Boy Scouts and the Lyttelton Sea Scouts at Latimer Square on Saturday afternoon. There was not a large muster on parade, owing to the difficultieas of getting all the hoys together, but tho local troops were well represented. Tho parado was under tho command of Colonel IX Cossgrove, Dominion Chief Scout, assisted by Colonel firesswell, Provincial Comnvssioner, and Captain D. C. Cossgrove, Deputy-Provincial Commissioner. As his Excellency came on to the parade ground he was greeted with a liaka by the boys. Ho then inspected tho various troops, and afterwards presented tho following trophies won in the recent Dominion competitions : King’s Standard for best all-round troop—Morivnlo No. 1 troop, under Scoutmaster R. J. G. Collins. (Third year in succession.) Sargood, Son and Even’s Otter Challenge Shield for swimming—-Merivalo No- 1 troop. Totem Pole for Junior Scouts (Bull Puns)—Merivnlo No. 4 troop. Bristol Piano Company’s Signalling Shield —Avonside team, under Scoutmaster D. Richardson. Shooting Cup and Badges for Shooting—Avonside team. His Excellency congratulated the winners of the trophies on their success. He said that ho had come into close association with tho Boy Scout movement during tho war and during the epidemic and on both occasions the hoys had done very good work and had proved themselves useful members of tho community. He advised them to keep on doing as they had done and to work hard and play hard and tc keep themselves fit. It was tho last opportunity lie would have of inspecting them and he wished them all the best of luck and good fortune, and hoped that tho movement would succeed as it deserved to succeed. At tho conclusion of the inspection, tho Scouts nave three hearty cheers for his Excellency.
