RIVER BOARD.
SOUTH WAIMAKAEIRL Tho South Waimakariri River Board met yesterday afternoon; present—Messrs J. Let* lio (chairman), H. E. Peryman, A. S. BrUca* F. E. Jones, W. P. Spencer, C. H. Opie J. P. Lee and N. K. Bowden. The overseer reported that there had boon four ordinary floods in the river since tho lest monthly meeting, but that no damage had been done to any of the works. The course of tho river had not altered above Empire Bridge, but opposite the new groynes at Stewart’s Gully the stream had shifted further north and was causing a very heavy current at the end of No. 2 groyne, which was not completed. “ When I started to pot in this groyne,” stated the overseer, " them was only four foot of water, and now it is something like twenty 'feet deep. I have pot in twenty-five blocks of cement in one pltooa, and there is not any showing abovo water.” The effect of tho work done, he continued, had been to turn tho current satisfactorily. Owing to tho wiy in which the river had scoured into the groyne, the work would cost £75 more. Six acres of willows and silver poplars had boon planted on the strip of land fenced off from Lot 25 at a cost of £9l IQs. A sum of £7B 7s had been spent on marram gross planting this year. The total cost of work done during the month waa £877 Ba. The report was adopted.
