SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

SYDENHAM. The monthly meeting of the Sydenham School Committee was hold on Wednesday evening, there being present—Mr E. L. M'Keon (chairman), Mesdarucs A. Riseley and S. Willoughby, Mossra T. H. Butterfield, R. J. Duncan. G. P. Taylor and J. Butterfield. Tho hoad master reported that the average attendances for tho past month had been: —Boys 518, and girls 460, tho total being 93 per cent of the number on tho roll. Tho Education Board wrolo stating that, under the provisions of tho Education Act, it was debarred from appointing an uncertificated toachor to a permanent position when there were certificated teachers available. In these circumstances tho board was unable to accede to tho request of tho committee regarding Miss Barr. The board mentioned that there would be no. objection to allowing Miss Barr to remain until the end of tho present year. A claim for compensation for injuries received by his children was received from Mr Le Compto. It was deckled to forward tho claim to the Education Board. Accounts amounting to £22 2s wero passed for rpnyment. Mr R. J. Duncan was appointed delegate to tho School CoramiUccs' Assnointicn, in lien of Mr G. P. Tavlor, who had resigned. The chairman renorted .that four cords of firewood ordered had been received. A discussion took place concerning the utilising of the honours board in the new pchool, and it was decided to ho'd the mat-. ter over untiltho next meeting of the committee. A circular le*ter was received from the Council of Teachers conoerving tho conference of teachers, rarest" and and wn.s referred to the teachers for their consideration.
