Ilydo (Central Otago) have returned to their home after a stay in Christchurch. Mr and Mrs Harley (Sumner) have gono to Ran gi or a to reside. At St John’s Church on Tuesday, the Rev Canon Bean officiating, the wedding took place of Aliss Edith Alidgley, only daughter of Mr and Mrs j. Alidgley, Christchurch, and Mr Herbert Cook, only sou of Air and Mrs F. A. Cook, also of Christchurch. The church waa prettily decorated for the occasion by girl friends of the bride. Mr Alidgley gave his daughter away. She wore a lovely white crepe de chine gown with a corsage of georgette and silver tissue, aud the slrirt having panels of georgette weighted with silver tassels. She wore , a white lace veil arranged in mob style, and carried a bouquet of pale pink hyacinths and white hothouse flowers. She was attended by Miss Doreen Cook (sister of the bridegroom), who wore a rose pink Liberty georgette frock, a black tnlle hat trimmed with a varicoloured wreatli, and carried a bouquet of peach blossom; and also by Miss Kathleen Hobbs, a flower girl, who wore a dainty white frock embroidered in pink, and carried a basket of pinik and white flowers. Air Arthur M’Whannel (cousin of the bride) waa best man. A reception was held at Broadway’s. Tho first of a scries of afternoons for soldiers from the Orthopaedic Hospital was held at Sumner yesterday afternoon, when a garden party was given to between forty and fifty visitors in the pleasant, well-sheltered grounds of Air and Airs E. Denham, of Head Street- The city arrangements for transport ware organised by Mrs G.

S. Lavie, who met with great kindness from owners of cars who were willing to drive the wounded men out. Locally the scheme was 'initiated by the Rev E. 0. W. Pc well, who hopes to organise similar outings at Sumner once a fortnight, by dividing the borough into blocks and thus giving all the residents a. chance to entertain a number of men. Already arrangements arc being made by the Ladies’ Miniature Rifle Club and by the Bury StreetSchool.

The first function was a pronounced success, the residents from Head Street aud Scarborough leaving nothing undone that would make the men’s visit, a pleasant success. Seating accommodation was arranged on the lawn, where- afternoon tea and fruit- wore handed round by willing helpers. A sat of gramophone selections was given, and othei musical items wero contributed by Airs and Miss E. Leithead, Mrs Henley, Miss Dry burgh and Miss Woodhouse. The visitors included the matron of tho hospital and the sister in charge, as well as several Red Cross nurses and ward sisters. At the conclusion a very hearty vote of thanks was proposed by Corporal Caliari, tho visitors responding with cheers.
