CHRISTCHURCH. 'Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M., preside# at yesterday’s sitting of the Magistrate’s Court. . , Two first offenders were each nnca 5s in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment for drunkenness. John Allan was fined 40s and costs for entering licensed premises during the currency of a prohibition order in force against him. Charles Nelson and Thomas Nolan, charged with similar offences, were each fined 20s and costs. Maka ELaimoka, a Native girl, pleaded guilty to having escaped from tho Salvation Army Rescue _ Home, to which she had been committed for two years on April 3. She was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon, the Magistrate warning her that any further appearance in Court on a similar charge would result in her being sent to gaol. John Hall, £45 5s in arrears under & maintenance order requiring him to Bupport his child in a Government institution, wa9 sentenced to three months’ imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended provided the arrears were paid off at the rate of £2 a month. John Hancock (Mr Cuningham) asked for the variation of a maintenance order requiring him to contribute 25s a week to the support of his wife and child. As a decree nisi in respect to the parties had now been made absolute the order to pay 25s a week for tho maintenance of the wife and child was reduced to 10s a week for the support of the child. Mr Flesher appeared for the complainant, Sarah Hancock. , , Herbert Henry Moher was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order made in respect or bis wife, Nellie Moher (Mr Lucas), the warrant to be suspended so long as Xus a week should be paid off the arrears and the terms of the original order complied with. , , . Charlotte Jane Gibson asked for separation and maintenance orders against her husband, John Gibtfon, on the grounds of cruelty. After hearing complainant’s story the Magistrate granted the orders asked for- Maintenance was fixed at £1 a week. LYTTELTON. Messrs W. T. Lester, J.P., and P. Knight, J.P.. presided at the Lyttelton Court yesterday. Thomas O’Brien, charged with drunkenness and using obscene language, was convicted and discharged for drunkenness, and fined £5, in default one month's imprisonment, on the second charge. William M’Carthy, for using obscene was fined £5, in default one month’s imprisonment.
