SHIPPING NOTES. Thoro were seventeen vessels at Lyttelton yosterday, with a to.al of 34,860 gross tons, the vessels consisting of eleven coastal and six oversea steamers, namely, Mararoa, Corinna, Cygnet, John, Calm, Mana, Canopus, Kamo, Kararau, Karu, Kaiiangata (the latter in the stream), Wai.omo, Kauri, Waiwera, Waimana, Australrango and War Pilot (in the stream). There was no ber.hing yesterday for the War Pilot and Kaitangata, consequently they had to remain in the stream all day. The Kamo is expected to leave for Greymouth to-day. The Putiki finished her loading for Wellington yesterday afternoon, but it was not expected that sho would sail before early th : s morning. The Jolin finished discharging her cargo of timber yesterday, and sailed for Oamaru, v/henco she will proceed to Timaru, and later roturn to Lyt'olton to complete her loading for Wanganui. The Calm, fully loaded with gcnoral cargo, loft for Wellington and Wanganui lart night. The Corinna could not complete her loading last evoning. owing to the watersides ceasing work at five, o'clock, consequently she will not leave for Nelson and New Plymouth until noon to-day. The Kammu is advertised to sail for Wcstprjj direct to-day. The Karu is expected to leave Lyttelton for Wellington and New Plymouth to-night.. Tile Canopus, which renewed hcT articles yesterday, will leave for Westport this morning. Thq Mana, which arrived in Lyttelton yesterday morning from Wellington, and is timed to sail for Wellington again this evening, was unable to securo «ny labour to work the vcs“ol yosterday. The Kauri yestordav commenced the unloading of her cargo of wheat. Little discharging was done, however, as only ono gang of men could bo secured. The Waiwera completed her discharging yesterday, and loft during the evening for Port Cln'mo’-s, from whioh port she will proceed to Melbourne. The War Pilot, from Now York direct, wlt’ch arrived in the stream on Sunday, should berth to-day. Sho has 1600 tons of cargo for discharge here, including a largo consignment of ca«e o'l. From Ly* tel ton silo will proceed to Dunedin, thence Melbourne and Brisbane. The Taraworn reached Auckland on batuxdav morning from Gisborne. The Mararoa should resell here this evening from Wellington, and sail on tho return jonrnoy to-morrow night. ( Repairs to the tug Terawhiti’s winch will bo completed at Wellington to-day. Tho yeasol will wait in Wellington until spring, tide, and is expected to assist on Hiursday in *in a toxnpt. to rofloat the Kowhai. Hr Godfrey Wilson, late manager of the Union Steam Ship Company at Lyttelton, and latterly purser of the Mannganui, eft for Auckland by the Mokoia on Saturday night, to take up the position of chief clerk at” the company’s Auckland office. Tho New Zealand Shipping Company s steamer Orari was expected to reach Sydney on Wednesday last from Port Said. She wa» expected to replenish her bunkers and proceed to Auckland, where she will ho docked prior to loading at Gisborne, Napier and Wellington for London. Eu route from London, the hnor tort Pirie sailed from Newcastle for Auckland on Wednesday Inst, and should arrive at tno northern port to-day. After discharging a part cargo the vessel will proceed to Napier and Wellington to discharge tho remainder of her cargo. The vessel’s loading ports have so fur not been fixed. Advice has been received by tho Now Zealand Shipping Company that tho Yonno was to commence loading at Montreal for New Zealand ports on June 10. and that she would bv followed by tho Kumara at tho end of J 'Tho Matatua, which left London on June 2<l, is to call at Auckland, Wo 1 liny ton. Tho New Zealand barquentine lane was towed into port in a dismantled condition. She was en route from New Zealand to Adelaide, timber laden, and struck heavy gales in Bass Strait. Her masts were carried overboard, and tho vessel was left at tho mercy of tho weather. Temporary spars were rigged, but as tho ship was -unable to proceed southward, she headed for Sydney, which she reached after a perilous trip.
