HARBOUR BOARD
WAIMAKAEKI. The . Waimakariri Harbour Boar« met last evening; present—Messrs VV„ Doubleclay (chairman), id- C. Kevell, T. E. Keetley, L. B Evans and it. Bunn. The secretary of the Marine Department, Wellington, wrote advising that the Divers Commission was expected to visit Kaiapoi about tho middle of the present month. Tno tender of Messrs A. Trustrum and J. M’Allister, for cutting willows, was accepted. Tho chairman reported that the Works Committee had decided to leave the removal of the loose piles at the half-tide wall until a later date. . It was decided that the chairman should obtain information as to who had the right to the willow trees at Askeaton, and the Works Committee was empowered to call tenders for cutting willows opposite Beßwick Street. It was decided that the harbourmaster should be excused from attending meetings until October. The harbourmaster reported that the average depth of water on tho bar war seven feet six inches. Heavy easterly seas had washed large quantities of sand into the river off tho north spit* A deputation, consisting of the executive of the Patriotic Committee, waited on tho board regarding the proposed site for erecting a war memorial The chairman of the committee (Mr J. H. Blackwell) stated that the committee was unanimously in favour of the site at tho corner of Cookson and Charles Streets, the property being partly owned by the Borough Council and partly by the Harbour BoardAfter hearing the deputation, it was decided to call a special meeting of the board to consider the matter.
