FOUND DROWNED[Per Press Association,] WELLINGTON July 7. The body of Herbert Metford, a middle-aged labourer, was found in the harbour near Queen’s Wharf. He was last seen alive on Saturday. TWO MEN DROWNED. [Per Press Association.] INVERCARGILL, July 7. The Invercargill police have been informed that George Aitkenhead and Thomas Fitzgerald, bushfellers employed by a farmer between Hedgehope and Tussock Creek, were drowned in the Mnkarewa River, which runs through the fanner’s property, this evening. They were crossing tho river, which was in flood, but no farther details are yet known.

COLLISION ON NORTH ROAD. At about six o’clock on Saturday evening a collision took place on the North Road at Belfast, between a motor-car, driven "by Mr S. Hendy, of Ilendy Bros., llangiora, and a gig driven by Mr W. Howard, caretaker at Borthwick and Sons’ freezing works. Mr Howard, who was accompanied by his wife and daughter, was driving towards home, and Mr Hendy was going in the direction of Christchurch. As a result of the collision the gig was overturned, the shafts being smashed and a wheel wrenched off. The occupants of the gig. were thrown out. Mr Howard was badly bruised! about his head and body and his hands were severely cut about. Miss Howard escaped without injurv, hut Mrs Howard was severely injured internally, it being feared that three' or four of her ribs are broken. Tho horse was thrown into the ditch and badly cut about. The damage done to the. car was comparatively slight and did not affect its running. SUDDEN DEATH. Mi's Harriet Newt-on. who resided nt 225, Edgeware Road. St Albans, died suddenly at about 5.15 p.m. last evening, from heart failure. The deceased, who was seventy years of age, left her homo to pay a visit to some friends. When passing Mr Goss’s residence in Manchester. Street North, she collapsed. She was picked up and carried into Mr Goss’s house, and Dr Widdowson was sent for. On arrival he pronounced life extinct Dr Crooke, who had attended Mrs Newton, is able to certify as to the cause of her death.
