A request for n donation towards the reception of 'Viscount Jellicoo and the men of H.M.S. New Zealand was made to tho City Council last night in a 'otter from tho newly-formed Citizens Entertainment and Reception Committee, which has as chairman and deputychairman respectively the Mayor and president of the Nawy League (Mr A. Boyle). Tho letter stated that an extensive programme was in preparation, including tne visit ’of from 12,000 to 15,000 school children to the sliip. and the expenses would probably be greater than on a previous occasion, when the City Council voted £250. On the present occasion the Lyttelton Harbour Board had voted *£loo. The letter was referred to the Finance Committee.
