The report was adopted. The Buildings Committee reported that as the Woolston Borough Council had sanctioned the removal of the house in Ensor's Road, prices had been obtained for carrying out the work; that it was endeavouring to obtain the use of suitable premises for carrying on classes in wool-classing in the third term; that alterations in the heating apparatus in the south wing had been carried out, but in the tests applied it still fell short of the temperature requirements by 7 degrees j and that it had authorised the provision of a storeroom for material, and that arrangements were being made for its control. The committee recommended that in view of the urgent necessity for the provision of more accommodation for instruction in engineering, particularly for the instruction of soldiers, the board should ask the Education Board to grant sufficient ground at the west end of the present workshops for necessary alterations. The report wa<? adopted. The Ladies' Advisory Committee reported that it had received the resignation of Miss Scott and had invited Mesdames Norton Francis, Edwin Hay and O. These results were announced only now for examinations held twelve months ago, which accounted for the small number of entries compared with the number that would have been obtained if the examinations were held at a suitable point in the school session and if the results were available more promptly. It seemed desirable that Dominion examinations should be instituted on the line 3 of the Cityand Guilds examination, and the. Minister of Education might be asked to consider tho matter. The report was adoptedThe chairman said that he understood that the conference initiated by the Otago High Schools' Board was receiving enough support throughout New Zealand to guarantee its success, and the recommendation of the Parliamentary Committee to send representatives from the board was, therefore, probably a wise one. As, however, it was not likely that very much business vitally affecting . technical colleges would appear on the order paper, a further conference of boards of managers of technical schools was most desirable, and he was informed that the findings of conferences of this kind would be treated with more consideration the earlier they were held during the next session 'of Parliament. Remits embodya number of their ideas on changes in" the administration of the department were being circulated amongst the technical school boards. The chairman and Messrs H. R. Rnsbridge and B. Seth-Smith were appointed the board's delegates to the conference called by the Otago High Schools' Board. It was decided, on the motion of Mr W. H. Cooper that before the order for dies for the college medal Ire sent to Eneland local firms should be interviewed to see if the die* cannot be manufactured in the Dominion.
