TOWN PLANNING.

ADDRESS BY MR HURST SEAGER. A meeting was held in the City Council Chambers yesterday afternoon to hear an explanation of the objects of the New Zealand-Town Planning Conference nnd Exhibition, organised by the Government, ■ which is to bo held ia the Wellington Town Hall from Tuesday, May 20, to Saturday) May 2-1. The Mayor (Mr H. Holland) presided, and there was a good attendance. Mr S. Hurst Seager, after a few preliminary remarks by the chairman, stated the business which would be dealt with at the conference. Mr Newton, assistant Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs, would deal with townplanning legislation in a paper. A Bill had already been circulated, and the .aim was to get a co-ordination of Die Acts. They would not discuss the Bill minutely, but consider the general principle, and endeavour to come to some definite conclusions to help the Government in the framing of the Act. In the representation at the conferehce tney wanted a 3 many able lawyers an they could get. All societies were invited to send delegates, and the number was not limited. The attendance of executive officers of various bodies was aimed at. _ It was desired to get the best criticism that could be produced as it was hoped to make the conference the starting point of genuine reform. There would be present thm or four hundred delegates from all part l of the Dominion. A keen interest had everywhere been evinced throughou' the country, from what he lie-' gathered all were looking for a lead The subject of town planning was n very vital one, and one which con cemcd tlio health and well-being of Unpeople.
