SWIMMING.
OPAWA CLUB'S CARNIVAL. The Opawa Amateur Swimming Club’# oai nival was held in the Tepid Baths last night, bofore a very large gathering of *peolators. Chief interest among swimmers centred in several attempts to lower records. W. Sutherland and E. Low (Opawa) attempted to lower the 100yds intermediate Coys’ New Zealand record of C 6 4-ssoc, put up by E. Low in March loet. Low beat ■Sutherland by half a vard, but tbe time was a fifth outside the record. W. Batchelor hen attempted to lowor the 100yds schoolooys* record of 70 1-Ssao hold by H. von Sturmer, of Auckland. He just boat the record by a fit h of a second. Misses G. Shand and K. Bristed then attempted the 75yds intermediate record of 58aoo, put up by both of them in March. Miss Shand led Mias Bnated home bv about 3yds, but the time merely ecual ed the record. A Waltham ladies’ graceful swimming oontest for a prize presented by Mrs A. Anderson was won by Miss Kathleen Annand. A similar eyer.t open to Opawa ladies was won by Miss K. Bristed. The events resulted as follows
