LINWWOOD PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.

On Thursday evening a large gathering of people assembled in the Linwood Presbyterian Hall to say farewell to Mr. and Mrs J. Tennent and familyMr Tonnent came out from Scotland six and .a half years ago to do Church extension work in connection with St Paul’s Church. He was in charge of the New Brighton and Linwood branches until the New Brighton branch was large enough to hare a sole charge missioner, and Mr Tennent then took charge of Linwood and Richmond. Ho has now received and accepted a call from New Brighton and will take up his, duties there on Sunday. Tho Rev J. Paterson took the ohair and spoke of the great work Mr Tennent had done since his connection with St Paul’s Church, and conveyed to him the best wishes of tho congrega*tions of Linwood, Richmond and St Paul’s in his new charge. Other speakers were the Rev It. M. Itvburn, Messrs It. H. Wilson, W. Strange, P. Hercus and J. Stout. Musical items were given by Mr W. Strange, Misses MGibb, J. Hannah and M- Searell. and a recitation by Miss D. Sherwood. On behalf of the congregations Mr P- Hercus presented Mr Tennent with an address signed by the office-bearers and members of the churches, and Mr and Mrs Tennent with a purse containing a cheque for over £36 and suitable presents to the members of the family. Mr Tennent, in replying on behalf of himself and family expressed regret at leaving, hut felt it his duty to respond to tho unanimous call ho had received. Supper was served bv the ladies and the evening ended with tho singing of “God be with you till wo meet again.”
