BOROUGH COUNCILS.

Tho Kangiora Borough Council mot last evening; present—The Mayor C. 1. Jennings), Councillors H. Boyd, W. G. Wright, A. Ji. Tyier, W. J. Bouse, C. S. Ayers. V. 'H. Pulley, W. A. Bowse, W. A. Banka and F. B. Bane. Consideration was given tho Bastings Council's resolution that the next Governor should be selected from the people of the Dominion, and suggesting General fair Andrew Bussell for the office. It was resolved that the letter bo recoivcd. The Devonport Borough Council forwarded a resolution urging tho Government to repatriate as soon as possible all alien prisonerns of war interned in tho Dominion, lho letter was received. The Mayor was appointed to confer with tho chairman of the Kangiora, Oxford, Byre and Ashley County Councils, regarding the appointment of a representative on the Canterbury Progress League’s committees, to bo set up to investigate the development of the hydro-electrical extension throughout the district and “the roads question." A circular was received from the Minister of Internal Affairs, oxpressing tho thanks of the Government to the people of the town and district for assistance rendired during tho influenza epidemic. In another circular tho Minister suggested that, in view of the possibility of recrudescence of the epidemio, a special clean-up week should be arranged for throughout the town. The oircular was roceived. A petition was presented, signed by 118 ratepayers and supported personally ty thirteen, protesting against the proposal of the council to institute a garbage cidlecti.l3 scheme, to be made compulsory throughout tho borough. After a long aiso.ission, it was unanimously resolved to defer the matter for the incoming council to deal with. Tho Kangiora County Council wrote, asking whether tho oouncil would favourably consider a proposal to appoint a cattle ranger, to devoto tho whole of ois timo to ranging the Kangiora end Eyre rramies and the Kangiora and Kaiapoi borougns. It was decided to leave the matter for the new oouncil to deal with. Councillor Tyler st-ided that the lyew Z.ealand Farmers’ Co-operative Asson.vion lifd, in recognition of tho Fire Brigades services at the Co-operative Stores fire, giving a donation of ton guineas to the brigade’s funds, offered to oover the floor of tho station room with linoleum at a low cost. The council voted £5 10s towards the cost. It was resolved' to share the expenses of tho Peace celebrations with the Kangiora County Council up to amm of & 00 each.
