LYTTELTON. , The Lyttelton, Borough Council mat on Monday ovenmg; .present—the Mayor (Mi V/. T. Lester), Councillors G. S. Morris, J. T. Norton, J. T. Brico, J. ,T. Gower, 0. H. Collins and J. Webb. Tho Mayor stated that ha intended to coil a public mooting early next year for'the cf considering tho erection of a suitable memorial in memory of fallen soldiers, and, further, to miiko aitanffoinenta to welcome soldi'crn returning horuo. Tho Works Commutes reported that lifebuoys had boon placed at tho boat jetty and tho men's bathing jetty a Corsair Bay, and a patunb Adams lifebuoy ess wall as a lifesaving reel were available at tho shelter slied.° Instructions had been givon to place aro'hor lifebuoy efc the outer end of the enclosed bath. Iho committee was of opinion that iheM) appliances would give ample pioviriou for life-savihg. Tho report was adepted. , s?hs Lighting Committee recommended that tho oleo'rio street lights should b<» sun ponded in tho cantro of the si-rest in nil main streete of tho town, with tho exception of Norwich Quay, whero tho scheme is not practicable. The report was adopted. The committee futthei recommended that twenty-five'edec ria light poles phould be procured at tho first opportunity for stock, and that SOftft of conduit piping should bo ordered for wiring premises. Tho report wag adopted The By-law and Letrai Committee xecouv mecded that the necessary steps phould be takor. in torms of the Noxious Weeds Act, 1208, to pass a' special order declaring- ferine! and hemlock to be noxious weeds in the borousrh. On tho motion of Councillor Bri:e, seconded by Mr J. G-owef, tho report was ndooted. The council decided to again urge upon the Railway Department the desirability of renictating the pre-war Sunday train service betv.oen Christclvureh and Lytieltoti. 7*avo of absence was granted to tho counoil's 'nsineer to attend the general meeting of tho New Zealand Society cf Civil Engineers, to be held at Auckland on February iS r.nd 22, '1919. ■ ; A letter was received from the Mvy LeMue asking tho council to vote tu rum of money towards tho fund t!» leagno is organising for dependants cf m*n of the Royal Navy who have been lost or incapaoitated in the war. The matter was referred to the Finance Committee.
