THE ARRESTED VESSEL.
RELEASED AT LYTTELTON.
ADMIRALTY COURT CASE. «
The American vessel Oakland, which was arrested at Lyttelton pending the production of a bond on account of a claim for damages, has been released, and will be allowed to' sail immediately for Apia, whero she will load with, copra for America. The bond was produced before Mr W. M'Cartliy, Deputy-Registrar of the Supreme Court, acting for the Marshal of the Vice-Admiralty Court, this morning, and he instructed that the vessel should be released. The bond is for £4250, a sum claimed from tho owners by Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co. and Messrs W. H. Simms and Son. Christchurch, on account of alleged damage to a cargo of motor oil brought by tho vessel from America to Lyttelton. Other claims were made against the vessel, but they have been provided lor. The claim brought by Messrs Wright. Stephenson and Co. and Messrs Simms and Son will be heard in tho Vice-Admiralty Court in Christchurch, but as some of the evidence will bo taken in San Francisco, it may bo towards the end of next year before the case comes into Court. The evidence- of Captain E. Wendt, master of the vessel, was taken on commission by Mr A. H. Holmes, Marshal of the Vice-Admiralty Court, a few weeks ago, in order not to detain tho vessel unnecessarily. Mr G. Harper is appearing for tho plaintiffs, and Mr A. P. Wright for the owners of the vessel.
