As muoa as 11,928 cubic yards of broken metal had been delivered in the year, which really represented eight months, April 1 to November 30; 332 chains of waterbound and 47 chains of tarred macadam road had been made in tho same term, while 295 chains of streets and 2917 chains of footpaths had been tardressed ; 16,288 loans of household refuse were destroyed at the destructor, producing 5145 loads of clinker and 835 loads of tins.

Tenders had been let for sinking three additional wolls of nine-inch bore for increasing the city's water suppy. Tbose, when completed, would be connected with the high-pressure water supply, and the electrically-driven pumps would pump direct into _ the mains when necessary. If any accident happened to the reservoir, the large mains os the chief pumping station, that suo-station would act as an auxiliary supply. Additional office accommodation was urgently required for the staff, and the Elecwicitv Committee would need a further loan of £IOO,OOO in the near future. The question of a suitable Town Hall: must bo faced with resolution and determination. It was to be hoped that the new council would attack those questions with energy. In conclusion, bo expressed his sincere thanks to the council for loyal support during the year, and also the Town Clerk, the City Surveyor, the Kleetrionl Engineer and the staff, from the highest to the lowest.
