\ THE PACIFIC MENACE. SOUTH AMERICA'S VIEWS. NEW YORK. October 31. The "New York Times" Washington correspondent states : —lt is learned through Latin-American sources that the west coast republics of South America favour the elimination of German influence from the Pacific. Diplomatic representatives of various American countries express full approval of the Entente's proposal to deprive Germany of her South Sea and Asiatic possessions, thus preventing the renewal of the German Pacific menace. AFTER THE WAR. MAINTENANCE OF COALITION , URGED. LONDON, October 31. A largely-attended meeting of members of the House of Commons, but not including the Labour members, passed a resolution that a return to Party Government during the war or tho subsequent reconstruction period would be a national disaster. They urged the maintenance of the Coalition Government. The Unionist War Committee passed a resolution urging the Government to make a definite declaration of its economic policy. GENERAL ELECTION. EXPECTED ON DECEMBER 17. (Received November 1, 7.45 p.m.) LONDON, October 81. The prevalent expectation is that the general election will be held on December 17. RECRUITS WANTED. AUSTRALIA'S APPEAL. By Telegraph—Press Association—Oopyrlghi SYDNEY, November 1. The Government is urgently appealing for the greatest possible number of recruits. IRISH AFFARIS. AN ACTOR'S ARREST. (Received November 1, 8.50 p.m.) LONDON, October 81. Mr T. M. Healy has resigned, as a protest against the sentence of two years' imprisonment imposed on a Sinn Fein actor for singing two Irish songs. He expresses the hope that tho actor will be elected for North-east Cork.
