SHIPPING NOTES. The Cygnet returned from Akaroa on Tuesday evening. She unloaded her Akaroa cargo and took on a full load for Kaikoura, for which port sho departed last evening. The Wootton is due to leave Wellington to-night, and should reach here to-morrow, returning to the north again on Saturday. 1 The Federal Executive Council has approved of tlis payment of a bonus equivalent to 25 per cent of their wages to masters, of* fleers and members of the crew of vessels registered in Australia in respect of the period during which the vessel is within tho war zone (reports " Sydney Shipping List.”) This is exclu-ive of the time the vessel is in port within that zone. Tho term “ war zone” is to apply to the routes fo'towed by such vessels when proceeding to and from a port on tho Atlantic eids of North America and Afrioa and the United Kingdom, the Conof Europe, or on the Mediterranean coast of Africa, and will commence or torminute in each case, at either the eastern end of the Panama Canal or the Capo of Good Hope or Suez. The Now Zealand Shipowners’ Federation has also offered to pay a war risk bonus to masters, officers and engineers of vessels of under 300 tone register. Meetings of tho Merchant Service Guild and the Marine Engineers’ Institute are to bs held this week to consider tho proposal. Tho Orepuki is expected to complete her loading of general cargo for Greymouth end Hokitika to-day. Tho vessel will make her departure this evening. Tho Tainui is due at Lyttelton early ibis morning from Wellington, for which port sho will sail again this evening. From Wellington sho will go on to Wanganui and, in company with the Mana, will carry on lightering work the whole of next week between Wanganui and Wellington. The Westralia is due in Lyttelton this morning, and will proceed to Dunedin this evening, thence via. Bluff to Melbourne. The Putiki, from tho south, is due here this morning to load general cargo for Welling* on.

Advice has been received in Auckland that Lieutenant A. E. Cain. R N.R., formerly master of the Union Comnanv’s Kaitangata,' t'as been awarded the Distinguished Service Cro-=. As the result of protests which have been made by tho Auckland Chamber of Commerce and others agai”st the proposed elimination of the Friendly Islands by tho Talune on her next trin from Auckland, the Union Company has arranged that the vessel will now make her usual calls at those islands. The Hmemoe, will go into dock at T/vttriton on Monday next, and will leave for the Chatham Islands immediately after coming out.

The Kahika and Karamn were unable to make their departure from Greymouth yesterday morning. It is honed to dispatch them for Lvttelton this morning. The Monowai has been delayed at Auckland owing to rain, and is now expected to leave Auckland to-dny for southern ports.
