COUNTRY NEWS.
[From Our CoRRESPoyDEXis.] WAIATJ. On Friday evening in tho Coronation Hall & social was held to bid farewell to Private C. Cone. Mr H. T. Heaven, chairman of the Patriotic Committee, presided, and presented Private Cone with a Testamont and pocket wallet. Items were contributed by. Mis Burrows and Misses E. Cono and I. Manion. The music for the dancing was supplied by Miss G. Brown, and Mr M'Bryde. WAIPARA. A large and representative gathering assembled in Mr Baker's she'd at Waipara on Monday night to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs Doyle and family. Mr Doyle, who has been promoted to Timaru; has been stationmaster at Waipara Junction for some years, and has been noted for his courtesy and ability in the execution of his duty. On benalf of the residents, of the district, Mr K. 0. Duncan presented Mr Doyle with a purse of money, suit case and travelling bag, arid Mrs Doyle with a silver cake dish. Eulogistic speeches were delivered by Canon I urchas and Messrs D. Doak, J. .Baxter, L. King and E. Dalton. After the presentation, supper was dispensed, and dancing was indulged in till the early hours of the morning, music being supplied by Mrs Cole. \ oca items were contributed by visiting and local talent.
