DO WE REALISE?
We, who sit at home and read and think about the deeds of our' boys, what have we done for tho oauso? If we could seo the hundreds of crowded hospitals, the thousands of maimed men whose mutilated bodies will for a generation remind us of the fearful work of war, we would give as the voice of conscience and pity dictates. This ia tho appeal of mercy: The money given to tho Red Cross through the Canterbury v. Otago Copper Trail to-day will help to bring from the ends. of the earth material ail’d comforts for the care and healing of broken bodies of men, who are risking all for us. If we are to do the right thing, our giving must be in appreciation of the sacrifices our lads are making. Can wo let it be said that Otago appreciates these sacrifices more than Canterbury? What' have we done so far P Canterbury, with a population of 255,300, has not yet given £7OOO, while Otago nas given £16.000. Canterbury lags a long way■behind. The Red Cross needs the help of every man, woman and child—need? every donation from Id upwards. Wake up, people, of Canterbury. Help your country to be proud or f ■ ' “OUR DAY,” 1918. Send your donations to Messrs Gould, Beaumont and Co., Hereford Street, lion. Treasurers; or to G. L. Donaldsou. Hon. Organiser, Art Gallery. N.B.—The population given above includes the whole of the South Island, north of Waitaki, which for the purpose of tiie challengo is called' Canterbury. The remainder of the South Island below Waitaki is included- in Otago. '1
