PUBLIC NOTICES. Asparagus roots. i ■" . . . ■ In tie “ Press ’’ Garden Notes of Sept. 1, 1917, Mr J. T. Sinclair, tlso writer, says:— There in probably no bettor season of tho year to make outside plantations of Asparagus than the beginning of September. Asparagus is worthy of good culture, and will not thrive upon illdrained soil or that upon which spado-work has been neglected or skimmed over. Asparagus delights in rich soil—it is hardly possible to over-manure.'' Partially rotted manure, decayed vegottiblo refuse, road grit and leaf-mould aro all valuable adjuncts to tho soil. An expert method of planting the beds consists in taking- out a trench about six inches below tho ordinary level of the soil in tho bed and placing eighteen inches asunder in little hillocks of soil, so that the roots will fall all around tho littlo hills. This gives a Beat for tho crown to rest on. Two lines can be put in three-foot beds, allowing eighteen inches between the lines We have a large stock of plants to oflor. One yoar old, Cs per 100; two years old, 7s 6d per 100; throe years old, 10s per 100. NAIRN AND SONS, Lincoln Road, \ CHRISTCHURCH. ! Telephone 241.
