NEWS AND NOTES. Mrs T. H. Papps left by motor yesterday to spend a holiday at Kaikoura. Mrs F. Graham is the guest of Mrs E. J. Lb Cren, Timaru. Miss Rogers (Timaru), who has been staying with Mrs Julius, at Cashmere, has returned to her home. Miss B. Robinson has returned fi'Oin a holiday spent in Timaru. Mrs R. Ulrich has returned from Timaru.

Miss Barton (Fcatherston), who has been paying a round of visits in Christchurch is the guest of Mrs Melville Jameson, Otumaraina. Mrs Eustace Russell (Invercargill) arrived in Christchurch on Saturday, and is staying at the Clarendon. Mr and Mrs A. T. C. Clements have returned to Christchurch from Akaroa. The Misses Hart (Lawrence), who have been spending a holiday in Christchurch, left for their -home yesterday. Mrs M. Hadficld (Auckland), has returned from St Clair,. Dunedin, and is staying with her sister, Mrs M’Credie, Bristol 'Street.

Mrs and Miss Guinness (Timaru) left for their home yesterday. Mrs Guinness came to Christchurch to attend the investiture on Saturday for the purpose of receiving her decorationMrs and Miss Murray (Napier) passed through Christchurch on their way south yesterday. Mrs Van Asch, Miss Cunningham and Miss Moorhouse (Rangiora) have been in town on a brief visit.

Mrs Hole and Miss Hole (Wanganui) are staying at Warner's. Miss Hole has been ill in Lewisham Hospital for some time, but has now recovered.

Ballantyne’s are showing a choice selection of Fashionable Veils and Veilings, including the new Bordered Veils in Black and Colours. Smart and becoming Veilings from Is 3d to 9s 6d yd, and the Veils are from 3s lid to 12s 6d each. 1

A CINDERELLA DANCE. An enjoyable '“Cinderella dance” was given by Miss Cox at “Te Whare” on Saturday evening as a break-up for the young people’s dancing class. The supper table was decorated with howls of pink japonica. Extras were played by Miss Gwen Given and Miss Bonnie Young. Those present included Misses Grant (2), Lilias Laurenson, Ellie Jenkins, Lina Williamson, May Hall, Kate Barnett, Cox (2), Phyllis Hobbs, Thelma ’ Walden, Frost (2), Marjory Bnekhurst, Elsie Stevenson, Moyna Hoben, Olive Cooper, Eileen Bonnington, Kitty Kincaid, Harris, Dixon, Jessie Oakey, Connio Sherwood, Fletcher, Creta Pitcaithly, Candy, Amy Jamieson and Marjory Legh, Messrs Harris, Lightband, Williamson, Cooper, Bradbury, Pitcaithley, Dixon, Baker, Parker, Gordon, Walker (2), Corbett, Oakey, Hood, Skoglund, Wigmore, Logie, Tisdall and Hutchinson. A number of parents were also present. KHAKI KEWPIES.

The company of Mcrivaie children—- “ Tile Khaki Kewpies”—gave another of their delightful entertainments on Saturday night, under the direction of Mrs Mills, at the residence of Mrs T. D. Boag, Bryndwr. • The big drawingroom . was splendidly arranged for tho entertainment, a stage having been erected, and there was ample accommodation for the large audience. The highly satisfactory sum of £3O was received, £ls of which resulted from the saie by auction of four real kewpies. Mr F. W. Johnston conducted the sale. During the evening songs wero contributed by Miss Webb, Miss Esme A’Court and Mr Bills, and Miss Austin played a violin solo. Miss Dori 3 Webb was the accompanist. Amongst those present were:—Dr and Mrs Chilton, Dr and Mrs Simpson, Air and Mrs Whittaker, Dr Sandston, Mr and Airs Belcher, Air and Airs and Miss Otley, Mr and Airs Eggleston, Mr and Airs F. W. Johnston, Miss Macmillan, Alias Reese and Aliss Isobel Alills. The proceeds are to go towards the Papanui ticket of the Tramway Copper Trail (Lady Liverpool Comforts Fund).
