Mr J. Howell, principal of the Technical College, and Mrs Howell are visiting Kowai Bush.

The Archdeaconry of Christchurch has been offered by the Bishop to the Rev P. B. Haggittj who has accepted the appointment, and will be instituted to his office in the Cathedral at Evensong on Tuesday, September! 10. Mr R. Stone Florance, assistant Magistrate in the Gisborno district, is being retired. He lias been twenty-one years on the Bench, and has sat in twenty-one Courts in various parts of the Dominion. He will retain his position as district land registrar and examiner of titles at Gisborno.

At a meeting of the St Albans Protestant Political Association, held on Tuesday evening, the chairman referred to the able and consistent support of the principles of Protestantism by the lato Mr Richard Meredith, and a motion placing on record his valued service, and expressing sympathy with the members of his family, was carried in silence.

On Friday evening last Mr and Mrs Baker, of James Avcuuo, Papanui, gave a young people's party as a farewell to their son, Gunner W. A. Baker, of tho Forty-sixth Reinforcements, N.Z.F.A. An enjoyable evening was spent in games, musical items n-nd dancing, and the soldier was the recipient of several useful gifts from his friends. Prior to going to camp he was presented by the staff of Messrs Sargood, Son and Ewen with a set of military brushes, a pocket mirror and a safety razor.
