SHIPPING NOTES. Owing to the rough weather at Wellington on Tuesday night, the Wootton rnd Wakatu did not sail for Lyttelton. It was expected that both theso vessels would be dispatched last evening. The Putiki is due hero to-morrow from Tarakoho.with a load of cement. She will sail in the evening for Dunedin. Tho Patoena has taken up tho Mararoa’s running in tho ferry service and will continue until Saturday. The Maraxoa is undergoing ovorhaul at Wellington. The Calm, on her way to Wellington and Wanganui from Timaru, called in at Lyttelton yesterday

Tho Cygnet, is still on the slip, and is likely to remain there for at least another month. In the mcanwhila tho John Anderson is undertaking the running to Akaroa and Kaikoura. The vessel left for the latter port last evening. The Moeraki is timed to leave Wellington for Sydney to-morrow. »

Tho Kamona is expected to leave Greymouth to-day with a load of ooal for Lyttelton.

The Monowai is expected to leave Auckland to-day for Wellington direct. She is due at Lyttelton on Monday morning, and will soil the same evening for Dunedin! Tho Oropuki left for Greymouth yesterday morning with general cargo. Tho Faith, the first American ooncre f e steamer, whose movements have been watched with much interest by seafaring men, will in all probability visit New Zealand. The Kaiapoi. which left Melbourne a week ago to-day, was exoected at Dunedin yesterday. She will proceed from, the southern port to Wellington, thence to Lyttelton. She has coal foT the threo ports. Tho dredge Canterbury is expected to come cut of dock to-dav, having completed her overhaul and cleaning The Mav. Haworth, which has been in deck along with' tho diedge having a new rudder fitted, will also be floated -out. The Opihi will then be placed in the dock, where she will receive another coat of paint below her water-line. The Karamu is to be docked at Port Chalmers for survey. The coastal steamer Tainui is due here today from Wanganui direct She will sail agaiu this evening for Wellington. The Magisterial inquiry into the loss of the Himitangi will open at Wellington on Friday. Captain G. Lambert and Commander Hooper have been appointed assessors.
