RANGIORA BOROUGH COUNCIL
The Rangiora Borough Council met la,st evening; present—tho Mayor (Mr C. I. Jennings), and Councillors H. Boyd, W. G. Wright, A. H. Tvler, W. J. Rouse, C. S. Ayers, V. H. Pulley, W. A. Rowse, "W. A. Banks and F. B. Lane.
Standing in silence tho council adopted a motion expressing sympathy with Mrs W. J. Barber in the loss of hor husband at the front, also with Mr S. H. Richards in the death of his son. Lieutenant H. S. Richards, and with Captain W. Atwell, and SergoantMajor H. F. Phillip, whose brothers had made tho supremo sacrifice. A motion was carried making 1 a special order authorising the raising of a loan of £5500 for the installation of eleotricity in the borough, and a further motion was adopted striking a epecial rate of three-farthings in tho £1 on all ratable property in the borough las security for the loan. An application from Mr J. C. Banfield to havo the electric light wires in Ashley Street extended to his place, entailing the erection of twenty chains of line, was referred to the electric light committee. Mr R. Ball, chairman of the Rangiora High School Board wroto thanking tho council for its contribution to tho technical claosos and apologising for any apparent lack of courtesy in the secretary's letter of application for tho grant. The Works Committee recommended that the selling prico of tho limber being cut at Maria Andrews Park should he 17s 6d por 100 ft for boards and 16s Gd for 100 ft for scantlings, and that the firewood cut in 4ft lengths should be 27s 6d per cord. The committoe had no recommendation to make rogurding an application by the draymen for an increaso in v«tgos. Three tenders were received for the sanitation contract, and it was resolved to accept tbo lowest, that of Messrs F. Murray and H. Dale. The recommendation was adopted' in regard to timber. The foreman reported that tho Rangiora County Council had delivered 100. cubic yards of broken motal, and it was decided to purchase another 150 yards. The financial report stated the month's roceipts to havo been : General account £4BB 8s lid, and Eras account £3lO 19s Gd. The debit balance was £201)9 lis Id. Tho following accounts were passed lor payment:—Geueru.l £3lO Os 4d. gas £395 3s 6d. , lt ~ It was resolved to again request tho police tJ endeavour to prevent motor-cars and motor-cycles being driven through the streets at an excessive speed. It was agreed to take r. poll on tho Firo Board proposal on the day of the Council election in April. The fire superintendent was authorised to make arrangements for drawing the engines to fires.
