• CIVIL SESSIONS.: • His Honor Mr Justice Herdman presided -at the. civil sessions of the Supreme Court yeßterday. CLAIM FOR SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE. ■ The hearing was resumed, of the action in which Edward Fullarton porman, farmer, Lincoln' (Mr Beswics:), rsked for specific performance by Geurge Herman Tobeck, farmer, Halswoil (Mr F. Wilding, K.C., with him Mr Gresson), of an agreement, for the purchase of certain land between Spr.ngburn and Staveley, the payment of £IOOO damages, or, alternatively, the payment of £1750, the second instalment of the purchase money. When the Court adjourned on thu previous day evidence had been given by the plaintiff, and the case for the defendant had opened. Yesterday evidence was given by defendant, Ernest. Wallace, farmer, lai Tapu; John Wallace, farmer and contractor.- Tai Tap-it; Amos G. Oormack, farmer, Methven; William Russell Deveroux, of Devereux, King and Co.; William Milne Shaild, Christchurch manager for Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co.; and the case lor the defence was closed except for one witness to be examined on Monday. . Rebuttal evidence for the plaintiff was given by John E. Austin, and the Court then adjourned till 10.30 "..in. on Monday. fpEE Press Association.] NEW PLYMOUTH. August 23. At the Supreme Court to-day. Norman Henry Ward, for indecent assault, was sentenced to four years' reformative treatment at Invercargill. George Fitzgerald, for assaulting a constable, was ordered tn come up for sentence if called upon. Harry Ernest AVilliams, a Norfolk Islander, for an offence against a young girl, was sentenced to four years' imprisonment with hard labour on each of three charges, the sentences to be concurrent. He received an additional year on a further, count, and was also "dec'ared a habitual criminal.
